NextEra Energy and Google Cloud’s announcement of a landmark partnership to develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses across the U.S. underscores the critical intersection of AI-driven energy demands and advanced power infrastructure. Revealed on December 8, 2025, this collaboration not only expands their existing 3.5 GW of operational or contracted capacity but also integrates AI tools for grid optimization, with the first commercial product slated for the Google Cloud Marketplace by mid-2026. Under the Trump administration’s pro-nuclear policies, including the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act, CES benefits from streamlined regulations and funding for SMRs, supporting domestic energy independence amid rising AI demands. While NextEra has expressed caution on SMRs in the past, their nuclear restarts signal openness to advanced technologies.
